Head Coach Chris Weller

Chris Weller grew up on a farm in Central Kansas. The work ethic he developed on the farm helped him become an accomplished athlete at Southeast of Saline High School in Gypsum, Ks. Chris was not only the captain of a state championship football team in 2006, he holds a school and league record in the 4x400 meter relay and a 3rd place finish in the state 4x800 meter relay, 3rd individual place in clean at state powerlifting, and was the team captain of the wrestling team and an all- league wrestler. After graduating college at the University of Arkansas, Chris moved home to work on the farm. While there, he decided to start his own non-profit youth wrestling team, Southeast of Saline Wrestling Club. Chris wore many hats for that team. He wasn't just the head coach, he was also team president and fund-raiser. Starting the club with just 15 members by his third year he grew the club to almost 30 in rural Kansas. He was very successful and took many young men and women to the state championships ages 4-15. In 2015 Chris gave up his team to follow his wife to Arkansas. Not wanting to give up coaching, he took a position as assistant coach for the Fayetteville Wild Hog youth wrestling team. In Fayetteville Chris helped place 23 wrestlers in the youth wrestling tournament, 9 of those being state champions! Chris's philosophy toward wrestling and life is, "Winning and losing does not define us, hard work, dedication, and perseverance are the keys to success". Chris is employed as a high school and junior high P.E. teacher at Northwest Arkansas Classical Academy in Bentonville, and coaches junior high and high school; golf, basketball, and track. Chris is bronze card certified, has experience refereeing wrestling and was KSHSAA referee certified, coached high school wrestlers, he himself competes in wrestling competitions, and spends countless hours studying and going to camps and clinics developing his technique, love, and passion for the sport of wrestling. We are proud to have Chris Weller as the Bentonville Youth Wrestling head coach!
